Help: Printing to Epson Stylus under RHL 5.0

Post by Damascene Joachimpilla » Thu, 25 Dec 1997 04:00:00

Hi,

Has anyone got this working under RHL5.0. This used to work under
Slackware for me but
now I have the latest version Alladin Ghostscript but it does not have
the drivers it seems. Can
someone who has this setup working please let me know how to get this
going!

Thanks in advance.
DJ

        I haven't looked at ghostscript-5.10 yet, but I am running under 5.03.
It's possible that if you are using a precompiled version, it's missing
Stylus support. For some obscure reason ghostscript as distributed
leaves it up to you to compile in stylus support.
Described below is what I do for each version of ghostscript, so far
without problems. There is also a method of using ghostscript without
magicfilter, this is described in the texts, but I've not so far tried
it.

First you have to get ghostscript 3.53 or better and add stcolor.dev
to the DEVS6 line in one of the .mak files, the .txt files are excellent for
telling you what you need to do. Once it's installed, that's the hard part
done.
Next get magicfilter-1.2 from sunsite (don't know if apsfilter is
as easy to get going).

      ******my /etc/printcap *******
# printcap entry for Epson Color Stylus II on /dev/lp0
# (standard parallel port - LPT1: in DOS parlance)
#
# Output is filtered through the magicfilter
# epsc2-filter for automagic handling of various formats.

1. Stumped by Ghostscript (Netscape printing on Epson Stylus Pro w/lpr based printing)

I have been trying to setup Netscape to print under Ghostscript for the
past month and have had no luck  (I did get thousans of sheets of
Postscript code, and error messages.   It would be nice to have someone
tell me what I need to do as of switches, pipes, evironment varibles,
and anything else needed to set up gs.

My printing system is outlined as follows:

Operating System:  Slackware Linux (I forget the version number)
Printer: Epson Stylus Pro on LPT1: configured w/  standard spooler
X Windows System:
Video card: S3ViRGE w/ 4MB VRAM (apearently configured for X properly)
Mouse: Logitech Trackman Marble on COM1: (apearently configured for X,
and Linux comand prompt properly)
Network: PPP dialup to Internet (apearently configured properly) (Hosts
file recently re-configured by setup program)

Thank you for your time,
Robert Ruedisueli
