New IBM 15 gb hard drive shuts down automatically?

Hi,
    I was wondering if the shutdown is a function of the new
hard drive that has some internal intelligence and a timer built in
or a function of my system bios. I have an old Pentium
166 with a 1995 bios.

Blade 100?  Has anybody tried it??
