PS/2 type 'mouse systems' mouse wont work

Post by Jonathan P. Doa » Thu, 03 Apr 1997 04:00:00

It seems as if I'm having the same problems as several other people, but I
havent seen any answers yet.  I have a Toshiba laptop with an Intelli
Point (Eraser) builtin mouse that works just fine in Linux.  I wanted a
real mouse, so I bought a three butten Mouse Systems mouse with a PS/2
connection.  I've tried all the settings for gpm, and under the best ones,
all it does is to jump around to the corners, and act as if I was pressing
buttons when you move it.  I figure the problem is that I havent gotten
gpm set up w/ the right configuration for my mouse - Can I do it?  Is
there something I'm missing, or a patch to add support for my mouse?

        Thanks Alot,
        Jon

The problem I found was with using the pcmcia services with a Toshiba.
If your using Redhat 4.1, I've been told by Bryan C Andregg that getting
the latest pcmcia-cs-sources from ftp.redhat.com compiling and
installing will fix it.

The mouse on a Tosh laptop uses IRQ 12, exactly the IRQ the pcmcia
services decides to use on start up.

to get around it type '/etc/rc.d/rc3.d/S45pcmcia stop' run gpm and run
/etc/rc.d/rc3.d/s45pcmcia start'.

Hope this is of use

It sounds like what happens when I don't have my mouse in the Mouse
Systems mode.  On my old mouse (without a switch) I have to unplug it (or
power off) then put it back in (or power on) with the left mouse button
held down.  This should work

PS/2 type 'mouse systems' mouse wont work

I also have a PS2 mouse as well as a MouseSystem compatible
mouse : I have to click on the middle button when the
laptop is starting (you must power the laptop off and wait a
bit in order that all capacities are discharged, then press
the button and power the laptop. As soon as it's started,
you can release the button).

Then you can only run : gpm -t msc

Do you have a Mouse System compatible mouse that is PS2 as well?  Or
are these two different  mice.  I have a Mouse Systems optical mouse
that works great, except that I cannot get it to work with three
buttons with the PS/2 adaptor.  My serial ports are full, so that is
why I need to use the PS/2 adaptor plug that came with it.

1. PS/2 type mouse doesn't work

I have just installed Linux Slackware version.  I have also installed Xfree86.
I thought I had configured  everything properly but found out different when
I started Xwindows.  I had no mouse.  I went back into setup and told it that
I had a PS/2 Style mouse instead of an MS serial one.  The mouse tried to work
but was not controllable.  I tried to change the confiuration file for X to
correspond to a PS/2 type mouse.  That just X to loop and not start.  Had to
re-boot on that one.  Now, I am at a loss. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Anything would be appreciated.
