PCI controller card

Post by Gautam Seth » Sat, 26 May 2001 00:35:24

i just installed a PCI controller card (ATA100) made by maxtor and
plugged the hard drives (i have 2) into it. then i tried a fresh install
of mandrake 7.1, but the installation process dies when it looks for the
hard drive. can someone suggest a workaround please?

best,
gautam.

plug an old 250meg hard drive to the original onboard controller and make
the /boot partition on it?

What is the make of that card exactly?  I ask because Mandrake 7.1 is
a bit old (they're up to 8.0 now) and I bet that your card is not supported
in that version of Manrdrake.  Alternately, the kernel may not be built with
support for booting from add-on cards (though this would be surprising).
Fixing this may involve a kernel upgrade.

1. Using Promis Ultra ATA/66 PCI controller card

I have a Promis Ultra ATA/66 PCI controller card powering one Ultra
ATA/66 hard drive. I am using Redhat 6.1. I have recompiled the kernel
and enabled support for the card but I am having a problem mounting
the hard drive attached to the card. For the record the drive attached
to the card is vfat and I just need to know how to access it. I tried
the "mount /dev/sda0 " command but to know avail. Any help would be
appreciated.
