I'm installing Slackware 3.1, but it doesn't recognize my Sony CDU311
CD-ROM.
Can anyone tell me if I need a another driver and where I would find it?
Thanks.

Either way, suggested reading is the CDROM HOWTO.
IDE CDROM drives cannot be attached to Sound Blasters that
use Plug-n-Play to get their settings. They also like to be
the master device on the cable if they are by themselves.
Boy, do those IDE CDROM drives have big egos or what :)
You need the ATAPI IDE CDROM driver installed in the kernel.
Typical installations have the IDE CDROM drive as the master
device on the secondary IDE interface, if your system is so
equipped.
The CDU31A is a proprietary Sony CDROM drive, and requires
the proper driver compiled in the kernel (cdu31a), and it
requires a kernel parameter at bootup.
