HELP: Linux on ASUS P55TP4XE with 1.2GB EIDE HDD

Post by Georg Dickma » Tue, 25 Jul 1995 04:00:00

I'm desparately trying to install Linux on my ASUS P55TP4XE Pentium PCI-Board with
a Western Digital AC31200 E-IDE HDD. Using the usual trick giving explicitly the
geometry of my HDD the kernel recognizes my harddisk when booting from disk
(slackware 2.3.0), but the system crashes either when writing the partition table
from fdisk. Once I got even to start setup, but whatever I do there system goes down.
Even when twice exactly the same procedure, I can be sure that the system crashes at
different times.

Has anyone experience with this hardware setup or could give me a hint what I should
change in order to get the whole thing running.

Thanks

The problem may actually be with Slackware 2.3, rather than the hardware.

I've been having nothing but trouble with slack2.3 on a system that was
previously happy with slack2.0...  I have yet to get it to boot successfully.

HELP: Linux on ASUS P55TP4XE with 1.2GB EIDE HDD

Hi!

I have linux instaled on 486DX2-66 with two IDE Maxtor HD (one 245MB
(/hda 245 MB for DOS and /hdb 340MB for linux). Both disks are
attached to the PROMISE DC4030VL-2 Disk Accelerator with 1MB cache.
Everything works well so far, but both disks are now about 90% filled.
According to docs DC4030VL-2 controler can handle up to four disks, but
the next two disks need drivers being instaled to be seen by the
operating system. I have a diskette with such driver for Unix system,
but it doesn't say for which Unix, so I was unable so far to read it
under linux. Since I am about to buy a bigger disk that would extend
my linux space,
I would like to ask if anybody is running linux with
this kind of the disk controler?
Is it possible to add third disk that would be visible for linux, or I
should rather replace one of my old disks?
I will greatly appreciate any help.

Ryszard

hi i have one and am running two drives on the controllor except i have
just upgraded my roms and i have 4 meg ram. as to what i have seen befor
the controllor looks like two controllors to the system and the 3nd/4th
will have a hdb name. i have not yet installed the 3nd drive yet
 so this is about
the extent of my knowledge except that you should go to 4 meg its great, and
speed is wonderful.

Has anyone used this motherboard with linux?

I am looking to buy one and run ppp with a cyclades 8Y 8 port serial card?

My current motherboard is having problems with this.

   Any comments?

   Thanks

I use that motherboard with Linux, and it works fine.  I don't know
about the serial card.
