Linux_Mandrake Kernel Compile Error

Linux_Mandrake Kernel Compile Error

Post by Bone » Sat, 15 Apr 2000 04:00:00

I'm having trouble trying to recompile my kernel. I start bzImage
and
it runs up to a point, then I get this error:

make[1]:Entering directory '/usr/src/linux-2.2.14/arch/i386/boot'
gcc -D__KERNAL__ -I/usr/src/linux/include -E -D__BIG__KERNEL__
-traditional
-DSVGA_MODE=NORMAL_VGA bootsect.o bbootsect.s
as86 -0 0a 0o bbootsect.o bbootsect.s
make[1]:as86: Command not found
make[1]: *** [bbootsect.o] Error 127
make[1]: Leaving directory '.usr/src/linux-2.2.14/arch/i386/boot'
make: *** [bzImage] Error 2

Does anyone know what this means and how to fix it?
Thanks in advance
Todd

go to cp /usr/src/linux-2.22.14/arch/i386/boot/bzImage dev/fd0
and make and new boot disk, reboot and cross your fingers!

Make sure you have the binutils RPM installed.  make cannot find the
assembler that the Linux kernel uses.

1. kernel error when compiling kernel on 4-stable (after make dep, during make)

Hi,

This is what I get on 2 machines when compiling my kernel on a freebsd
4-stable (cvsupped this morning, and yesterday and bothn have the same
problem) system:

cc -c -x assembler-with-cpp -DLOCORE -O -Wall -Wredundant-decls
-Wnested-externs -Wstrict-prototypes  -Wmissing-prototypes
-Wpointer-arith -Winline -Wcast-qual  -fformat-extensions -ansi
-nostdinc -I- -I. -I../.. -I../../../include  -D_KERNEL -include
opt_global.h -elf  -mpreferred-stack-boundary=2
../../i386/i386/bioscall.s
/tmp/ccO81277.s: Assembler messages:
/tmp/ccO81277.s:776: Error: operands given don't match any known 386
instruction
/tmp/ccO81277.s:841: Error: operands given don't match any known 386
instruction
*** Error code 1

Stop in /usr/src/sys/compile/MYKERNEL

What is going wrong ?
