I'm using SuSE Linux 7.3 Professional on a Dell Optiplex GX 150 which
is equipped with USB interface. On this system, I tried use a Flex-HDD
USB disk. When I plug in this disk, I get the following both messages
in /var/log/messages:

such USB mass storage devices should work like a SCSI disk, so I tried
to access with "fdisk /dev/sda" and "fdisk /dev/sdb" (Note: The
internal disk is AT/IDE, i.e. there's no real SCSI controller in it),
but I only get "Unable to open /dev/sdx" in both cases. A "cat
/proc/scsi/usb-storage-0/0" commands shows the following signature:

   Host scsi0: usb-storage
       Vendor: ScanLogic USBIDE
      Product: ScanLogic USBIDE
Serial Number: None
     Protocol: Transparent SCSI
    Transport: Bulk
         GUID: 04ce00020000000000000000
     Attached: 1

but a "cat /proc/scsi/scsi" shows a

only. I tried to follow the hints on
http://sdb.suse.de/de/sdb/html/tdenis_usb_zip250.html but there's _no_
/etc/usbmgr/preload.conf file (probably a new location since SuSE
7.3?). A "lsmod|grep usb" command shows

usb-storage            47792   0
usbcore                47264   1  [usb-storage uhci]

i.e. the needed modules should be loaded, I believe. Question: Do I
simply have to process some additional configuration steps or is this
disk not supported yet?

sollte sich eine solche USB-Harddisk wie ein SCSI-Ger?t verhalten, so
dass ich einmal mit "fdisk /dev/sda" und "fdisk /dev/sdb" (Anmerkung:
Die Systemdisk ist ganz normales AT/IDE, d.h. keine echter
SCSI-Controller installiert) darauf zugreifen, was aber nur die
Fehlermeldung "Unable to open /dev/sdx" in beiden F?llen liefert. Ein

aus. Ich versuchte den Hinweisen unter
http://sdb.suse.de/de/sdb/html/tdenis_usb_zip250.html nachzugehen,
aber bei der SuSE 7.3er-Installation existiert gar keine Datei
/etc/usbmgr/preload.conf (m?glicherweise anderer Ort seit SuSE 7.3?).
Ein "lsmod|grep usb"-Kommando liefert

usb-storage            47792   0
usbcore                47264   1  [usb-storage uhci]

zurck, d.h. die n?tigen Kernelmodule sollten meines Wissens geladen
sein. Frage: Muss man noch irgendetwas nachinstallieren und
konfigurieren, oder wird diese USB-Festplatte momentan ganz schlicht
und einfach noch nicht untersttzt?
