Since Asus has been selling motherboards with an on-board IrDA
connector for a while now, you could try buying the connector from
them, but I haven't found a store that has it, though. Instead, I got
an external device from Tekram that connects to the COM2 ports, and is
powered by the serial port.

Check out http://www.actisys.com they make adapters for the
on board irda headers.  There tech support was very reponsive
when I sent a compatibility question about my mobo.

They even make mention of Linux from the home page.

It would seem you need a specific type of device for the LED's HP make these
as do a few other vendors. I don't know yet where you could buy them but if
you search for HP and Irda you should find the part number, the datasheet on
the device etc. It also seems that there's a fairly widely accepted standard
for the Irda connector on the motherboard so if you manage to obtain a plug
in for another motherboard it might well work.

1. ASUS motherboard pinouts for PS/2 mouse connector?

Several of the ASUS motherboards have an on-board PS/2 mouse interface,
terminated in an 8-pin header with two pins cut out.  Does anyone know:

-  Where I can buy a cable which connects this header to a real mini-DIN-6
female jack that I can mount on my cabinet backplane?  (a header-to-
DB9-male with a standard mouse-compatible serial port pinout would
   be equally acceptable)

-  What the header pin assignments are, so I can cons up a cable of this
   sort myself?

-  The phone number of ASUSTEK, so I can call them and ask the above
   questions?
