Adaptec 2940/2940W not recoginized by Linux

I used both the new kernel and I compiled one myself with
the patch for the Adaptec 2940/2940W.  The computer, when
installing, turned off the extended ata294x recoginition
or something like that.  Does anybody have an answer to
this problem.  If you do either send me mail or post it.

My Adaptec 2940/2940W is not recognized by Linux.
I used the new kernel with the patch for the
ata2940 and I compiled my own kernel with the patch
both didn't work.  Can somebody please help me.
I am desperate for Linux to work.  My job depends
on it.
