HELP! : ISA PNP Modem

Post by <ati.. » Sat, 09 Oct 1999 04:00:00

I am trying to set up a linux box for my work, to show them how convient and
reliable linux is compared the the ultra expensive NT.  My 4 years of Linux
has all been with relatively old PC hardware as I am no millionaire :)

Thus my experience with modems has been ones that I could pull out and
change the jumpers, which was back when PC's were useful :)

This PNP thing has me austrosized, and I feel like a complete moron, telling
my work I will have it up in 3 hours, and 3 days later I am still playing
with the modem.

Relavent Facts:
Diamond Supra Express ISA.  It is on the non-winmodem list
Computer, old  p166 4 PCI 4 ISA slots, modem is in last slot (ISA Slot 3)
cat atdt5551212 > /dev/ttyS0-3 results in 0 and 1 taking it, 2 and 3 io
error,
   neither causes modem to blink.
minicom doesnt genereate a response on any cua/ttys/ttyS port.  That is with
setting the port, testing, exiting, testing, setting port...

I have fooled around with trying to figure out isapnp, and setserial, but
they are a bit above me.  I am not a newbie, but not a rocket scientist
either.

If anyone has ANY help here.  *please* send it soon :)  They are starting to
lose the faith in me, and I dont want to have to swap this 56k modem out,
for my old old old 28.8 just so that it works :)

I am sending some instruction someone sent me separately by e-mail.

Since your modem is PnP-only, you had better get comfortable with
isapnptools and setserial ;)  It's not that *ce you understand the
what you're trying to achieve.

Good luck!

My Diamond Supra Express spi worked fine until the power surge a few weeks
back. The bad news is that it took me 4 weeks of hair pulling to set it up
the first time on RH 5.1. By the time I switched to Mandrake 6, it was
pretty much all set up during the install. The only think I had to do was
use the RH modem tool to set the link and configure the dial-up....
