anyone have any luck getting Netgear FA-311 NIC to work in RH7.0?

Post by Typho » Sun, 15 Oct 2000 04:00:00

Greetings. I recently installed a Netgear FA-311 NIC. I run RH7.0. I
downloaded Linux drivers for the FA-311 from netgear.com. I carefully read
and followed the installation instructions, but I have not succeeded in
getting the NIC to work.

When I do cat /proc/pci

I get a readout  that tells me:

"Bus 0, device 11, function 0:
Ethernet controller: NS Unknown device (rev 0)"

Yep, I made sure to enable eth0 in linuxconf.

Has anyone used the FA311 w/ RH7.0? Advice?

Many thanks.

Kind regards,

Eric

it's not exactly a well-supported card.

how so?

that doesn't mean anything, has nothing to do with the driver.
have you followed netgear's directions on compiling and
installing the driver?

Quote:> Yep, I made sure to enable eth0 in linuxconf.

that is only relevant after you get the driver installed.

Hello, Mark,

figured out that I must compile the driver (which is written in C, and
contained in the file called fa311.c), then I must put that compiled driver
(called fa311.o) into the /lib/modules/ directory. The instructions that
come with the Netgear FA311 card are rather vague, in that they assume a
deeper acquaintance than with basic Linux principles. I am learning,
however. I will keep you and this newsgroup posted about my progress.

Kind regards,

Eric
