SCSI questions for RD6.1

Post by Wei Ya » Sun, 12 Dec 1999 04:00:00

Hi,

I would like to install several 50GB U2W scsi disks on my Linux
machine. Not for Linux OS (which will still be on IDE), but for
data only. I have two questions:

1. What U2W SCSI card should I use? Better to have both internal
   and external connectors.

2. I know that most PC BIOS has a limitation of 33.8 GB for IDE
disks. Does this restriction also apply to SCSI disks?

Thank you in advance

I think that I've heard good things about they symbosis driver in linux,
but I run a 3940UW for my 2x 1 gig drives.  :)

It shouldn't.  SCSI drives are designed for Small Computers, not
microcompuers.  (a computer is a mainframe, a microcomputer is your PC)

1. Terminal configuration problems with RD6.0

Hi,

I am having a problem with the xterm on RH6.0. I notice two problems.

1) I use the bash shell with the shell editing option set to vi. "set -o
vi". If I put this in my .bash_profile or .bashrc files it seems to disable
the escape key for editing. When I remove it form the startup files and
enter the command set -o vi after the terminal screen has been activated it
seems to work fine. This was not the behavior for RH5.2

2) I also have noticed that when I enter the gnome-terminal, or just a plan
xterm, and bring a file up for editing.... when I exit the editor the screen
is not restored to the previous screen content, which is the normal xterm
behavior, Instead it behaves like a dumb tty terminal connection and just
drops out of the editor.

I have checked my terminfo selection and it is set for xterm, however this
doesn't seem to be the behavior I am experiencing.

I have gotten this behavior for systems updated from RH5.2 to RH6.0 and for
fresh installs of RH6.0, also on both GNOME and KDC.

Any help would be appreciated. Please send mail to

Thanks
