Hello,

Can anyone recommend a good KVM switch that works well with Linux? I need
one for a Linux box / Windows box set up on my desk.

Thank you in advance for any help,

Matt

This doesn't answer your question, but look into VNC as an alternate
solution to your problem....

I highly recommend the Dakota Scout. I've been using it for about a year
with 2 Linux and 1 Windoze box running 1024x768 and 1600x1200 resolutions
and a Logitech wireless keyboard and PS-2 mouse (wheel mouse - no problems
recognizing wheel).

I especially like the keyboard switching. In addition to the button on the
KVM, you can switch between systems by typing <ctr><ctrl>A, <ctrl><ctrl>B,
etc. on the keyboard.

Power is drawn from the connected devices, so no transformers to mess with.

Check the cable sets carefully when you order. You can get different
lengths and connector combinations.

Matt, I am using a Belkin OmniCube (2-port) and have very little problems.

I'm using an OmniCube too and I've had no problems at all with it. Very
good bit of kit.

Oh and if you lose your mouse with the KVM, there is a trick to get the
mouse back. If you are in a X session, then go to text mode
(i.e. ctrl-alt-f1), wait a few seconds, and then back to X mode (i.e.
ctrl-alt-f7).

I don't know how to do this in Winblows (especially 98) without rebooting
my computer. :(

Maybe not a complete answer but I used to use a Belkin Omni View SE 4-port
switch with RedHat 6.1 which worked perfectly.  But since a full
format/reinstall upgrade of RH 7.1(same hardware), there have been alot of
intermittent problems especially with mice.

I'm looking for some recommendations for a 4-port KVM switch and
a 8-port KVM switch.  I need these switches to be compatible with

Thanks,
Kent
