Cluster hardware: comments, recommendations, criticisms

I'm helping put together a rack-mounted cluster (around 30 nodes) and
came up with the following hardware.  This is largely for
compute-bound scientific applications.  I'd appreciate your comments,
recommendations, and criticism on it.  Higher bandwidth/lower latency
interconnect is not economically feasible at the moment.

Thanks in advance,
Denby

I hope you are paying no more than $20 for the rack. That's
a way over the top price for a good one secondhand. DEC racks
with power controller can be had for about $5 on a good day.

What would economically feasible when it comes to an interconnect?
Have you looked at the WulfKit solution from www.dolphinics.com?

absolute best setup, even down to the switch.  48 ports 10/100 with
2gbic's and it's 1u.  of course, with the faster athlon's out, i'd opt for
them.

1. Hardware recommendation for a 64-node PC cluster

Need some recommendations on building a 64-node cluster for my school's
Biometrics lab. The funding for the project is limited (<$100K). I am
thinking about utilizing commercially available off-the-self motherboards,
processor, memory and PC chassis for the project. The cluster will be
running under Linux O.S. with Linux-based MPI applications. Any suggestions
on processors, motherboards and chassis will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
