Copy Playstation 1 games in Linux?

Copy Playstation 1 games in Linux?

Post by Walter Franci » Thu, 01 Mar 2001 11:00:08

I've searched and searched, but I can not figure out how to copy
Playstation disks in Linux.  I have modified my playstation so I can
copy all 16 games I own and play the backups (i was given the modchip,
wouldn't have bothered otherwise..)

I don't have the time to play lots of games, so pirating isn't the
issue, I'd just like to copy my own games.  I've had a few (mostly ones
I loan out :( that won't play correctly anymore.

Thanks for any help!  Or a suggestion on where to put this, I'm not sure
of the best place.. :(

Xcdroast (and other GUI burner utilities I'm sure) has a "Copy CD" mode
that works as advertised.  It's really just a front end to 'dd', which
you could do by hand as well, then 'cdrecord' the image onto a new CD.
Check out the man pages for more info.

I would imagine you could use cdrdao?

cdrdao read-cd psx.toc    - to read the cd
cdrdao write psx.toc      - to write the cd

I tried that..  :(  I found a website describing using cdrdao and how to
patch playstation games, followed it exactly, and still nothing.  I've
tried readcd, and when I finish compiling KDE 2.1 I'm going to try dd..

I'm beginning to think my modchip installation is at fault..  It'll boot
original games with no problems, but my backups just get to the black
screen after the white screen with Sony logo.. :(

When I get a chance I'm borrowing a game from a friend that he knows
works in his modified playstation to see if I didn't install the modchip
properly.

1. Playstation 2 games to be developed on Linux

According to The Japanese site Gamespot it has been reported that the
PlayStation 2 will use the operating environment of Linux for development!
As Linux prepares to host its first huge convention this week at Linux
World, this is huge news and pits Dreamcast with Windows against PlayStation
with Linux. Gamespot also revealed that the specs for the CPU have been
bumped up from the 250Mhz announced at the IEEE conference to 300Mhz. PSX
Nation will have much more tomorrow and throughout the week

More Playstaion 2 details can be found at http://psx.ign.com
