SB Vibra 16 PnP settings ?

Post by Pete » Tue, 23 Jun 1998 04:00:00

The old chestnut reappears - this must be a contender for the FAQ list :

How do I find out the correct information about the memory address, IRQ, DMA
to use for teh Sound Blaster Vibra 16 PNP card ?
(This is the modification to teh isapnp.conf file.......)

How do I test it is working once I have made the appropriate modifications ?

SB Vibra 16 PnP settings ?

I have a Vibra 16 and Here is how I set mine up.

I looked in the book at the default settings and they were:
A=0x220
IRQ=5
DMA8bit=1
DMA16bit=Don't use it. Supposedly this isn't supported except by drivers for
microsquash cinders 95
MPU401=0x330

to get this into the isapnp.conf easily I just type pnpdump > isapnp.conf
edit this file with your favorite text editor and uncomment the lines that
apply to the above settings
then don't forget the ACT Y part at the end.

once you boot and see the successful configuration message you can find a .voc
or .au or whatever an type
cat audiofilename.voc > /dev/dsp and if you hear something well.... otherwise
back to the drawing board.

Once you have this working your next big task will be to get doom sound
working. This may not be the true measure of a man, but it will sure build
character.

  Use OSS for your sound driver => it autodetects / find out your current
setting for your card.
