USB Audio; JVC FS-G5 compact stereo

USB Audio; JVC FS-G5 compact stereo

Anybody got any ideas about how to get USB audio working, with the JVC
FS-G5?

When I follow the sequence given in the JVC handbook (i.e., power on the
PC, power on the stereo, select USB as input, then connect eh USB cable),
this shows up in /var/log/messages:

ohci_hcd 0000:00:02.0: wakeup
usb 1-2: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 14
usb 1-2: device not accepting address 14, error -71
usb 1-2: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 15
usb 1-2: device not accepting address 15, error -71
usb 1-2: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 16
usb 1-2: device descriptor read/all, error -71
usb 1-2: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 17
usb 1-2: device descriptor read/all, error -71

Nothing shows up in usbview.

I tried modprobe snd-usb-audio, but that changes nothing.

If I unplug the USB cable at the computer, and plug into a different
connecter, I see this:

usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 4
usb 2-2: device descriptor read/8, error -110
usb 2-2: device descriptor read/8, error -110
usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 5
usb 2-2: device descriptor read/all, error -71
usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 6
usb 2-2: device descriptor read/all, error -110
usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 7
usb 2-2: device descriptor read/all, error -110

Can somebody explain the meaning of the "usb 2-1" in the first example, as
opposed to "usb 2-2" in the second? And what the error codes -71 and -110
mean?

FU2: comp.os.linux.setup
Thanks in advance for any help,

Beef.

1. Audio mixer for /dev/audio or USB audio?

Hi,

does anyone see a possibility for controlling /dev/audio? Is there
even a tool?

Background:

Im running a 2.4.13 kernel with a USB webcam (ToUCam Pro). The
built-in microphone is supported through the USB Audio class (and
accessable via /dev/audio). Everything works pretty well except audio
quality. The sound is scratchy on higher levels. All I want is to
lower the input level. The tools I have, smix and amixer, only
correspond with my soundcard (/dev/dsp).

The machine is a PC with SuSE, not a SUN/SPARC.

Thanks in advance
Greetings from snowy Berlin
