Problem with Fujitsu M2949S and Buslogic 948

Post by Kari Heikki » Mon, 03 Feb 1997 04:00:00

We are trying to use a Fujitsu M2949S disk with Buslogic 948
(Firmware/BIOS 5.06J/4.96F, driver 2.0.6, kernel 2.0.28) and mount
gives the following output:

Feb  2 20:21:32 panu kernel: scsi0: Tagged Queuing now active for Target 5
Feb  2 20:21:47 panu kernel: scsi : aborting command due to timeout : pid 87, scsi0, channel 0, id 5, lun 0 Read (6) 03 c0 87 02 00
Feb  2 20:21:47 panu kernel: scsi0: Aborting CCB #76 to Target 5
Feb  2 20:21:47 panu kernel: scsi0: CCB #76 to Target 5 Aborted
Feb  2 20:22:02 panu kernel: scsi : aborting command due to timeout : pid 87, scsi0, channel 0, id 5, lun 0 Read (6) 03 c0 87 02 00
Feb  2 20:22:02 panu kernel: scsi0: Aborting CCB #77 to Target 5
Feb  2 20:22:02 panu kernel: scsi0: CCB #77 to Target 5 Aborted
Feb  2 20:22:17 panu kernel: SCSI host 0 abort (pid 87) timed out - resetting
Feb  2 20:22:17 panu kernel: SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0.
Feb  2 20:22:17 panu kernel: scsi0: Tagged Queuing now disabled for Target 5
Feb  2 20:22:17 panu kernel: scsi0: Sending Bus Device Reset CCB #79 to Target 5
Feb  2 20:22:18 panu kernel: scsi0: Bus Device Reset CCB #79 to Target 5 Completed

After that the disk apparently works but without tagged command
queuing.  Any suggestions?

Read the manual of the Fujitsu HDD carefully: don't use the medium mounting
holes with long screws, better don't use them at all.

1. Strange 'lock-up' problem with Zip drive and Buslogic 948

I haven't seen anyone mention this problem before so here goes.  I'm running a Zip
insider SCSI from a Buslogic 948, and kernel 2.0.26.  I was accessing some files
from the Zip drive, and the drive began making a clicking sound, as if the sliding
panel on the cartridge was opening and closing, about once every 3 or 4 seconds.
I could not get this behaviour to stop by killing off processes.  I could not even
do an orderly shutdown, and I eventually had to hard reboot.  Any ideas on the cause?
