Help - Drivers for ATI Rage Fury.

Post by jmille » Wed, 27 Oct 1999 04:00:00

I wanted to upgrade the video driver in my dual boot PC.  I got a deal

on an AGP ATI Rage Fury card.  What drivers do I use with this card and

will I get half descent resolution and color depth with that driver?

The card is not mentioned in the XFree86 video card list.

Thanks John

(remove the nospam from my e-mail address for direct replies)

PS: The box is still in its shrink wrap so I can get a different card

but I don't have much time to return it.

I'd keep it if I were you...ATI will have fully supported drivers for
XFree86 in a few months (with 3d acceleration).  Until then, you can use
the Suse Rage X-Server (2d only). This runs on almost any distribution of
linux.  I am running mine at 1024x768 in 32 bit mode.  Its fast too.  I set
up a step by step help page on how to install it if your interested.  Goto

If ANYONE is having trouble getting their ATI rage to support anything other
than crappy vga16 or svga 320x200....

VISIT MY LINK...
www.geocities.com/ResearchTriangle/Node/5166/linuxrage.html

It deals with Redhat and SuSE.

It is not exactly a FIX, but allows you to get up to 1024x768 in 16-bit
color... Hope for resolve in supported drivers in a new version of XFree86!

Rellik!
