I tried this yesterday an an AS*S P2B-DS with 2 PII/400 on it.
Same as with SuSE 2.0.35 kernel: SCSI timeouts at boot time.
I used 2 wide discs (Barracuda/Hawk 2GB) at the WIDE (not ULTRA)
port of the mainboard. High quality (ULTRA SCSI) cable, active
termination.
The driver, by the way, recognizes the AIC7890. I can even load
the driver, if there are _no_ devices on the SCSI bus.
Nevertheless, it all (including SMP) works if I use my NCR 53C825
wide SCSI Controller. Those discs are okay.
Currently the machine runs with 2 NCR controllers in it.
It was not possible to use a small ISA Adaptec AVA1505 (that works
fine with Linux) for some external devices, as it seemed to interfere
with with the onboard AIC7890, even if the latter was not included
in the kernel.
