My sound card cannot work.

Post by ZhengD » Sun, 18 Jun 2006 02:45:08

Several days ago, my sound card can work well, but it wasn't able to
work yesterday.
I use Debian and the kernel v2.6.16. When the system starts, the
following modules are loaded:
soundcore,snd-intel8x0,snd-ac97-bus,snd-ac97-codec,snd-page-alloc,snd-pcm,snd-timer,snd.
I tried to run beep-media-player, and got the follow error:
Couldn't open audio.
Please check that:
1. You have the correct output plugin selected.
2. No other programs is blocking the soundcard.
3. Your soundcard is configured properly.

Does anyone know what is the possible problem?  I don't know what I
should do.
Thank you

your soundcards could be mixed. did you dist-upgrade?

uninstall & purge your udev package. e.g. "aptitude purge udev"

nobody really needs this shit of plugNpray, it mixes devices if you dont
read 1000 pages of doku an maintain blacklists and device-id lists of
your hardware.

much easier without: throw it away and load the driver and (mknod) your
device and use it.

1. Cannot get my sound card to work!!! HELP!

I installed OSS (www.opensound.com) driver for my Turtle Beach Montego II.  I'm using RedHat 6.0 with Gnome and Enlightenment.  When I turn on the sound (soundon) it says that everything okay, when I try to play a music CD, there is no sound or any sound.  I can turn the sound off (soundoff) and it does so with telling me that the device is busy.  When I turn the sound back on and run the mixer and try to turn the sound off, I cannot because the devices are busy.

What do I have to do to get the CD Player application to play the sound?  I should mention that I have two CDROM, one is a read-only and the other is a CD writer which the CD Player only want to play from the CD write (which is the "main" CD), how do I get the CD Player to use my other CDROM?

Thanks,
Shawn
