What is the best Ultra SCSI (50 pin) SCSI adaptor for a linux based dual
processor Pentium II server?

I would like performance and reliability.

NCR875 any good?

Thanks,
Albert

I am using an ASUS SMC875 based on the NCR 53C875 chipset

Mine would have done for half the price :-)

The usual answer is BusLogic (nee Mylex) 948.  I personally haven't used it,
but I do use TekRam 390{U,F} cards on my dual Pentium Pro (2x200 Mhz).  Both of
the cards use the Symbios 53c875 chipset (the 390U is Ultra-narrow, the 390F is
Ultra-wide).  Note, I have all 3 of my disks (2 narrow, 1 wide) on the 390F
(the 390U handles the cdrom and DAT tape).  I did have disk corruption using
the Adaptec 2940UW card that came with the machine in the past (though that
driver should be getting better soon, since Adaptec is working with the
developer on it).

I would recommend this host adapter. I have no experience about its SMP
behaviour, but I don't know areason why it should not work. The Adapter is
well supported, and cheaper than the so called "standard SCSI Host
Adapter" controller. Attention: Symbios modified the 8751SP to achieve PC-
97 compliance...keep this in mind. I am still using the old 8751SP. Bios
4.05.

Thanks. I got the KT-950 for about $95 from BuyComp.

I had some serious trouble with it but it looks like it was dual to the Bios
on the Asus P2B-D motherboard I was using. I upgraded it the the latest BETA
BIOS and it seems to be working.

1. ultra-scsi diff. card in Ultra 60 (problem)

Hi,

I am trying to install a sun PCI UltraSCSI card in a
ultra 60.  This is a ultra differential card based on
the symbios 876b chip.  The card is not recognized by
the prom (probe-scsi-all).  I tried an nvram edit suggested
by the Sun tech help but I still don't see any drives attached.
I will send more info later but my first question is:

Does anybody have experience getting one of these things
to work?

thanks,
Stuart

PS.  I will post the gory details on monday after I have one
more round with Sun and Andataco.
