DosLinux on g6-266

Post by Gambit » Wed, 20 Aug 1997 04:00:00

I've attempted to install DosLinux on my new g6-266, to make sure it
worked correctly before i wasted time downloading the entire OS.

My HD is configured strangely, instead of it being off the primary or
secondary IDE bus, its off a PCI umda controller card.

Is there any simple way for it to see my HD?  right now, ive got to
boot off a zip disk.

Thanks

1. Problem configuring X on a Gateway G6-266

Our department has a Gateway G6-266 which until recently was running
Windows 98.  It was purchased in 1998, and it has integrated graphics on
the motherboard.  Unfortunately, we didn't check what kind of video
Windows thought it had before we installed RedHat 7.1, and now we can't
configure X.   Xconfigurator can't detect the chip, so we tried unlisted
card and then tried every available X server.   The closest we came was
with the SVGA server, but all we could come up with was something like
300  X 200 when it tested the Xerver, but it wasn't a configuration that
was usable.

Has anyone configured X for this machine or any other Gateway of the same
vintage?

P.S.  During installation, it did manage to use the graphical interface
and even claimed it had come up with an X configuration at 800 X 600, but
it didn't work when the machine rebooted.
