Strange to say, it's called a switch box. jameco.com should have them.
look for p/n 114155 (switches 1 monitor and 1 kb between 2 computers) or
79177 (just a monitor switch). They cost about US$15.

is there any peripheral out there that would allow a person to share a
monitor between 2 computers. it would connect to both computers' video
outputs and to the single monitor and have a switch that will allow you to
toggle between the two computers. does something like this exist? if so,
what is it called and where can i get it?

thanks for any information you can give me

"Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.
"I don't much care where -" said Alice.
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go," said the Cat.

I use a Belkin OmniView to share the same monitor keyboard and rat (trackball
actually) between 4 computers running OS/2, DOS, NT4.0, and RedHat Linux 5.1,
and whatever 5th extra computer I am working on.

It supports 6 computers.

A few keystrokes lets me switch between them easily.

I got that one because it had a lifetime warranty.

They have similar devices at your friendly neighborhood CompUSA (in
the monitors section) although they can get a little pricy (around
$300 for 4 machine switches).

1. Monitor & keyboard switchers for Sun Boxes

Hi,
we are just about to try and put all our Sun kit into a nice shiny
cabinet. Only problem is, there's not enough romm for all the
monitors/keyboards/etc as well as the boxes. We could just chuck all the
monitors away and run them all headless via telnet, but I kinda like
having a head on a box so I can deal with emergencies & stuff.

I know you can get hardware switches for PCs that connect 1 screen,
keyboard & mouse combination to several machines so you can talk to each
machine by selecting it on the switch. What I wonder is : is there
anything like this available for Sun kit?

We have 3 sun boxes - an old SPARCClassic, an Ultra Enterprise 2 & an
Ultra 10.

Thanks in advance,

Mark
