When booting my kernel from my new Conner 850 MB hard drive (with
1652 cylinders), I get these messages at linux boot (using LOADLIN
from a DOS boot):
hda: Conner Peripherals 850MB - CFA850A, 813MB w/256KB Cache, LBA,
CHS=1652/16/63, Mult=0/128
Partition check:
hda: hda1 hda2 hda3
hdb: hdb1 hdb2
VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem) readonly.
After this message, the hard drive starts making a lot of noise,
and it just goes on and on, without printing the usual "init done"
message.
I know you can't "cold" boot off a partition above 1024 cyls, but
since I start up Linux after first booting from DOS, I figured it
ought to be possible with a line like
LOADLIN C:\LINUX\KERN1181.IMG root=/dev/hda3
Here's the partition table for that drive:
Disk /dev/hda: 16 heads, 63 sectors, 1652 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 1008 * 512 bytes
Device Boot Begin Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 * 1 1 1024 516064+ 6 DOS 16-bit >=32M
/dev/hda2 1024 1025 1057 16632 82 Linux swap
/dev/hda3 1024 1058 1652 299880 83 Linux native
What's happening here? Does anyone have a clue? If I start Linux
from my second hard disk, it works, and I can mount /dev/hda3 just
fine....
