Hi,
I have an old 486 Compaq Presario 866 sitting in the closet
and would like to try Red Hat Linux 4.2 but, before I do I am
wondering if my old Compaq is a good choice
( hardware Compatibility ). Have any of you Linux fans tried
or have Linux implemented on one of these compaq computers?

Three reasons to try it without bothering to ask:
1. It's sitting in the closet doing you no good.
2. Linux doesn't cost much to buy if you don't already have it.
3. You'll learn a lot by working through the problems.
Linux compatibility is going to depend a lot on what the computer's
configuration is, what peripherals it has, and the age of the Linux
distrubution you're using. Without knowing another thing about your
computer other than it is a "Compaq Presario 866", the best advice I can
give you is "Go for it, you've got nothing to lose."
1. Newbie (I mean REAL NEWBIE) question
Sorry, I'm not a pc idiot, just completely new to linux. I lurked here
for a day or two and didn't see the answer.
Can I run Windows95 in a Linux RedHat 5.2 shell? This would let me play
Linux but still use my favorite apps. I've set it up to dual boot, but I
want to actually run one or two Win95 sessions in Linux itself.
Someone told me it was possible, but in the 4 days of having RedHat on
my system I can't figure it out...
