My system is has an ECS motherboard with an onboard AC 97 sound package. It
worked correctly right out of the box with the Mandrake 9.2 installation,
and currently works with XP. When I did a clean install with Mandrake 10
Official the sound was not detected and configured. The Mandrake
configuration gui autodetects the card and adds the snd-trident driver but
there is still no sound. KDE control center will do the same thing with
the same results. I tried the alternate trident and Ali drivers from the
Mandrake gui with the same results. Alsaconf also sees the card correctly
and presents it as a configuration choice when I start the script, then
configures the snd-trident driver. At the end of the script it says it's
configuring the mixer settings, then exits with
Starting ALSA version 1.0.2c: trident trident. [ OK ]
Doing alsactl to restore mixer settings... [ OK ]
Setting default volumes...
Saving the mixer setup used for this in /etc/asound.state.
/usr/sbin/alsactl: save_state:1061: No soundcards found...
I tried running alsaconf -L to log all the actions but the log file was not
created in /tmp per the man page.
