Hi,
Can anyone recommend a good site that describes how to configure one's
RedHata system so that it can recognize an external hard drive connected by
USB?
Thanks.

You need a whole website to explain this?Quote:> Can anyone recommend a good site that describes how to configure one's

0. modprobe usb-uhci (or usb-ohci)
1. modprobe usb-storage
2. mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/somewhere
(NOTE: if you have a real SCSI disk somewhere, you will see your USB
device on /dev/sdb, so adjust the mount command to taste.)
...you can put the modprobe commands in /etc/init.d/boot.local or the
Redhat equivalent (/etc/rc.d/rc.local ?) so they'll be executed every
time you boot the system. If the mount command doesn't work, do
"dmesg | tail -20" and if there's a line like
Device 0x0F00:BA2F is not claimed by any active driver
...in the output, you need to get a newer kernel. The latest stable
version is 2.4.24, so if you're using anything older, it's time to
upgrade. HTH,

Having recently upgraded a laptop I've found myself with a spare 4Gb
2.5" hard disk. I've bought a USB enclosure for it and have succeeded in
using it with various Windows XP systems. I've had no luck making it
work with my Linux machine though.
Here's some details:
