linux on partitioned hard disk

we're going to buy a computer with a 1.6GB hard disk.  it comes with
Windows 95 and we're planning to partition the disk and install
linux on 1GB.  Will this cause problems?  If something were to go wrong
is there a possibility of the DOS partition getting screwed up due to
something being overwritten on it?  Is it better to get 2 hard disks?

Thanks

Suresh

Shud be ok, but make sure you have bootable (dos) floppy with Fdisk
on it just in case you forget to make dos partition active or some
such.

IMHO a multi- partitioned drive makes a lot more sence anyway (whether
or not Linux is being run as well) since the cluster size of a 1.6Gb
drive is monstrous. I've reloaded my Win95 system and saved about 50%
(maybe more) after re-partitioning with dosc, linux swap and linux
native.

Would suggest using loadlin/floppy rather than LILO to load Linux
until everything is running hunky dory. That way the master boot
record doesn't get messed up.

Be careful, RTFM, follow the instructions for linux fdisk, and you should be fine.
