Kernel Panic can't mount FS on 00:00 - Toshiba 3701 cdrom HELP!!

Post by M. Arneso » Tue, 19 Mar 1996 04:00:00

I am trying to load Yggdrasil PnP linux1.2.13. off a floppy & cdrom
I got a PCI adaptec 2940 SCSI controller (kernel sees it ok)
I've got a fujitsu 1gig scsi HD (device 0), and toshiba 3701 (device 1)
scsi cdrom.
during the boot from the floppy, I get:

Partition Check:
  sda:   sda1   sda2  <sda5>
Kernel Panic : VFS : Unable to mount fs on 00:00

I've removed the hard disk partition and get the same error.
I've also changed the cdrom to device 0 and the hard disk to device 1
and still get the same error.
(I'm assumeing the 00:00 is the cdrom, but I'm not sure.)

the boot sees the cdrom and the hard disk ok!  I can't seem to boot off
of the cdrom either.

I'm a linux beginner so I need all the help I can get!!

If anybody has any ideas... Please emil me or post a message

I had the same problem with Yggdrasil linux 1.2.13.  I've got the
toshiba 3701 6.7X scsi2 cdrom with the adaptec 2940 controller.

I got my hands on Slackware 1.2.13 and everything is fine!!

I still havent gotten the yggdrasil stuff to work.  I've given up on it.
I do have my one free tech support call to use, maybe I'll use it some
day. or... If you need a tech support call to yggdrasil..let me know

Only time I had this was when I opted to make extfs2 a loadable module
by mistake. :(  All other fs's can be modules except root.

Maybe this is the problem.

Kernel Panic can't mount FS on 00:00 - Toshiba 3701 cdrom HELP!!

Hi !
Let's have a look at your SCSI - Host.
Look at the boot messages, if the driver loads and if your cdrom
is found.
I had have the same problem, cause my adaptec were not recogniced
by the driver.
If you got the aha 2940 look at the neverending 2940 thread.

Other aproach :
Perhaps you try to boot with a kernel without iso9660 filesystem
in it. Recompile it.

1. Kernek Panic unable to load fs on 00:00 -- aha1940 with toshiba 3701 cdrom

The proplem I was looking for appears with an adaptec 2940 scsi
controller, and after getting linux to recognise the controller, (I had
to download what I assume to be a different kernel and rawrite it.), I
get the following error:

        Partition Check:
        sda:    sda1    sda2    <sda5>
Kernel Panic : VFS : unable to mount fs on 00:00

and the machine is halted.

I'm booting off of a floppy which is suppose to go and mount the cdrom
and install usernames root, install, etc. and prompt you with
a linux login prompt.

I don't seem to be able to boot off of the cdrom either. I've done a dos
installation but that doesn't recognise the scsi controller.

I'm trying to install Yggdrasil PnP linux 1.2.13 and my system is using a
1 gig fujitsu drive as device 0, and toshiba 3107 cdrom as device 1.
I've swaped the devices around so cdrom is device 0, etc. and I still get
the same error with the same numbers.

my hard drive is partitioned into 2 partitions <sda5> is the logical dos
partition with sda2.  I'm assuming its the cdrom that's giving us these
problems but.....I don't know.

I would be forever gratefull for ANY help!!  Thanks
