router as print server

router as print server

Post by J. Ro » Wed, 13 Dec 2000 13:03:42

I've got an SMC barricade router that acts as a print server.  It works
fine under windows, but when I can't seem to get web pages to print
under linux.  I can print local files fine under linux, but when I try
to print a web page I see the file in the print queue but nothing
prints.  Then if I try to print anything after that page (local file)
nothing prints either.  I have no idea why this is happening.  This is
what I am getting in /var/log/messages:

any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated because I am at a
loss as to what to do.

1. Router and Print Server?

**** Post for FREE via your newsreader at post.usenet.com ****

I was thinking about using my son's old 486 box
as router (RoadRunner).  From everything I've
read so far this is overkill :-)  So, in its spare
time could it act as a print server for my home
lan?  I'd put an HPLJ IIIP on it and may a HPLJ II.
The other machines would run Windows 95b and maybe
one linux box

Would I need a hd for spooling??? How much memory?
It's got 20mb now. Is there a security issue???

/dan
