I've got one of those onboard CMI8330 sound cards, and I'm having more
than a little trouble installing it. sndconfig detects it fine, but I
can't get any sound from the test. Then I tried the manual settings, but
I got many, many conflicts. Then I tried setting it up with the howto.
That didn't work either. I got errors saying the modules were already
installed, and when I rebooted. I got an error from isapnp saying that
`ISOLATE PRESERVE` had an error from isapnp.conf line 2. I'm kind of new
at this, so talk to me like I'm five. BTW, I also tried to install the
drivers from www.linnix.com, to no avail. Lots of depmod errors saying
how root doesn't own the modules or something like that. Can anybody
give me a tip on what to do next? (No I don't want to go buy another
soundcard...).

My PC is using the same onboard sound chip (CMI8330). Using Redhat 6.2 or
Mandrake 7.1,
it was automatically detected and configured, and runs well too.
