thinkpad 560 - problem with SCSI PCMCIA

Hello:

I need some input on the following:
I have a ThinkPad 560 with about 40M of RAM. 2.4.6 Kernel with support
for SCSI PCMCIA cards configured as modules.
I am trying to get an EXTERNAL Panasonic KXL 783A working on this
laptop.

*****Here is my output from daemon.log -it's a bit lenghty.

basically - when booting up I hear the 2 beeps: 1 for the ethernet
card. 2 for the Panasonic card. I also hear a 3rd "flat" beep rigth
after the 2nd one.  Sounds like something failed to load or
cardservices kicked something out.  My daemon.log confirms this.
Under /lib/modules/2.4.6/pcmcia/   I do have a qlogic_cs.o modules

***manually doing modprobe does not work:
Moksha:/lib/modules/2.4.6/pcmcia# modprobe qlogic_cs.o
modprobe: Can't locate module qlogic_cs.o

*** doing a depmod reveals the following
Moksha:/lib/modules/2.4.6/pcmcia# depmod qlogic_cs.o
depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in qlogic_cs.o
qlogic_cs.o:

What is unresolved symbols?  Does it have anything to do with my
kernel config?
Is this card even supported with the CD-ROM?  The PCMCIA card CAME
with the External CDrom.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

It means that some kernel support is missing. That can e.g. be
caused by another module which should have been loaded first.
Or you have just not compiled some neccessary features in the
kernel.
The best place to ask about PCMCIA problems is in the forum of
http://pcmcia-cs.sourceforge.net

1. Problem with IBM Thinkpad 560 and Raven PCMCIA CD-ROM

Hi,

I have installed Slackware 3.3 with kernel 2.0.30 on an IBM Thinkpad
560. It contains 2 PCMCIA cards, slot 0 has a Megahertz
ethernet/faxmodem card and slot 1 contains a RAVEN CDNOTE 4X PCMCIA SCSI
card. When I boot from the diskette using pcmcia.gz image, the cd rom is
detected and I was able to install Linux from the CD. After rebooting, I
get no response from SCSI controller 0, drive 0..and my system hangs.
The CD is set to Address 5, even when changing to address 0 it doesn't
help. If I reboot from the diskette and mount my hard drive, then remove
the /etc/rc.d/rc.pcmcia file, reboot then I do not get the error.
Obviously I no longer have PCMCIA support!
What is the bare.i, pcmcia.gz images on the diskette doing differently
than the installed kernel?

The I/O address of the card is 230 with IRQ 10. Windows 95 sees this as
a RAVEN KXLC002 pcmcia card and linux sees it as a Qlogic card.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Rob
