Intel Ether Express PRO/10, Sound Blaster 16 (PnP devices)

Post by Ananthakrishna » Fri, 11 Dec 1998 04:00:00

I am running RedHat Linux 5.2 on the following platform:

Hardware: Intel Pentium/32M

Problem:
I have the following devices (as reported by Win95) which are not being
detected by the OS and I am not able to configure them. Can someone help
me in setting up these devices?

1. Intel Ether Express PRO/10  (PnP enabled)
2. Creative Sound Blaster 16 PnP
3. HP Deskjet 676C printer. In this case, I am able to print the text
data but the device reports an error when I try printing postscript
files.

Please explain how I can conigure these devices. I am new to this list
and so am not sure if these questions have already been answered.
PLEASE HELP!!!

Thanks,
Ananth

Hello Ananthakrishnan,
I don't know the specific details,
but my understanding is that PnP
generally doesn't work in Linux.
On USR modems PnP is enabled by
disconnecting all the jumpers for
configuring the COM port and IRQ,
and disabled by connecting the
jumpers for a specific COM port
and IRQ. Perhaps there is a similar
way of disabling PnP with your other
devices?
As for the printer, can it print
PostScript files at all? I'm not
sure that all printers can handle
PS files.
Good luck,
Tom

1. Intel Ether Express ISA Pro 10 + ?

installed such a thing here yesterday.  None of the likely drivers from
2.0.34 seems to recognize it; and I got a eepro.c from cesdis that claims
to support it but won't compile (gcc 2.7.something, lots of undeclareds
and parse errors).

Thanks for any help.  I'd also be glad to hear anything at all about

mini-HOWTO).
