D-Link DFE-530TX NIC trouble

D-Link DFE-530TX NIC trouble

Post by Keith Beacha » Sun, 12 Nov 2000 04:00:00

I am having trouble configuring a D-Link DFE-530TX ethernet card.  I get
errors
like "init_module: Device or resource busy" when I try to load the driver.
"via-diag" finds the adapter at the expected address and the adapter appears
to work all right in Windows.

I have also checked that the "PnP OS" setting in the BIOS is turned off,
which
was a suggestion I saw in a previous post.  I have included the output
from modprobe, via-diag, lspci, and dmesg below in case they are useful
in solving this problem.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to fix this?

Thanks,

Brent

D-Link DFE-530TX NIC trouble

Post by Kevin Lon » Sun, 12 Nov 2000 04:00:00

I had the same NIC in my Mandrake 7.1 setup.  A number of drivers including
the Rhine ones worked, but communication was never better than pinging.
In the end I switched to an Intel Etherexpress Pro and never looked back.

D-Link DFE-530TX NIC trouble

Post by Séphane Gauber » Sun, 12 Nov 2000 04:00:00

Go and get the latest via-rhine driver from
http://www.scyld.com/network/ethercard.html
v1.01 of the driver doesn't support the VIA VT3065 Rhine-II.

Given the output from your via-diag command, you may encounter the same
problem I encounterd once you'll have compiled the latest via-rhine driver.

If your NIC hardware address doesn't appears correctly in the output of
ifconfig (if you get 00:00:00:00:00:00 like with via-diag), try these two
commands before loading the via-rhine module :

pci-config -S -# <the pci number of you NIC>
pci-config -W -# <the pci number of you NIC>

It works for me. I don't know why, but it works.

In your dmesg there should be an eth0 entry and there isn't. Your card is not
being detected. Maybe your card isn't installed correctly. Sometimes when you
install a card it doesn't get pushed in all the way, it should snap in.

1. D-Link DFE-530tx Rev A-1 and DFE-530tx Rev D2

Freebsd ver 4.0 and 4.3   the Rev A-1 board is recognized (pci) perfect.

the Rev D2 board is a PIA.. I did manange to foolaround with the
/usr/src/sys/pci/if_vrreg.h file and get it

to been seen but then the MAC addr comes back all zeros ??

is there anyway to get this new board to work..

I did note on the rev D the  Vendor ID = 1106  the product 1186   1300
0200

on the old one ( rev A ) the product something like  3043..

anyhelp would be great..

this took me way to long to find..

code fixes ?? any tricks ??

Terry
