ieee1394 external hard drive troubles

Post by Steve Marin » Sun, 19 Sep 2004 21:27:05

I'm trying to access a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 250GB ATA/133 via a
firewire connection to an HP pavilion zt1180 notebook running Fedora
Core 2 and the 2.4.27 kernel ( I cannot run a 2.6.X kernel since the
Nortel Contivity VPN client modules will not load into a 2.6.X kernel
).

after a "modprobe ohci1394" /var/log/messages shows:

kernel: ohci1394_0: OHCI-1394 1.0 (PCI): IRQ=[9]
MMIO=[f0000800-f0000fff]  Max Packet=[2048]
kernel: ieee1394: ConfigROM quadlet transaction error for node
0-00:1023

after a "modprobe sbp2" /var/log/messages shows:

kernel: ieee1394: sbp2: Driver forced to serialize I/O (serialize_io =
1)

# cat /proc/scsi/scsi
Attached devices: none

# cat /proc/bus/ieee1394/devices
Node[0-01:1023]  GUID[00023f220b0028b5]:
  Vendor ID: `Linux OHCI-1394' [0x004063]
  Capabilities: 0x0083c0
  Bus Options:
    IRMC(1) CMC(1) ISC(1) BMC(0) PMC(0) GEN(0)
    LSPD(2) MAX_REC(2048) CYC_CLK_ACC(0)
  Host Node Status:
    Host Driver     : ohci1394
    Nodes connected : 2
    Nodes active    : 2
    SelfIDs received: 2
    Irm ID          : [0-01:1023]
    BusMgr ID       : [0-63:1023]
    In Bus Reset    : no
    Root            : yes
    Cycle Master    : yes
    IRM             : yes
    Bus Manager     : no

I really don't know where to go from here, so any suggestions are
certainly welcome.

Cheers,

I need to run the script 'rescan-scsi-bus' before I can mount my
 ieee1394 HD.

*google* finds the script easily.  If you're already using it, then
I'm afraid I cannot help.

Regards,

Richard

P.S.  If you can get this to happen automatically please let me know
how you did it..
