newbie needs help: ne2000 pci card not found

I can't get Linux to find my ne2000-compatible PCI ethernet card.

entering:
"ifconfig eth0 192.168.123.2 netmask 255.255.252.0"
results in:
"ne2k-pci.c: no (useable) cards found, driver NOT installed"

same results using netcfg, and ifconfig only finds "lo" (Local Loopback)
device.

Using RH Linux 6.0, dual boot w/ Windows 98.  The card works under
Windows.

I would greatly appreciate any help (spending hours reading HOWTOs etc.
isn't getting me there.

ignore this question, please -- it's actually an ISA card, which changes
things just a little...

If your card really is truly ne2000 compatible and it really is a pci
card that driver should be able to use it. Try to boot with the
Slackware NFS installation boot floppy. That kernel is able to
autodetect most network cards. Maybe your card isn't ne2000 compatible
or PCI? What do you see if you do "cat /proc/pci" or "/sbin/lspci"?

HI

I hope some one can help me out there. I just updated me linux box from
1.2.13 to 2.0.30 but my network card NE2000 (16 bit ISA) Compatible
network card
that is set to io=0x300 irq=11 But the Kernel and the modules driver can

not find my NE2000 card. it's looking for a pci card or bios (the system

is not PCI).
I get this messages on my screen

pcibios_present undefined
pcibios_find_device undefined
pcibios_read_config_byte undefined
pcibios_read_config_dword undefined
Loading failed! The module symbols (from linux-2.0.30) don't match your
linux-2.
0.30

My system is a 486SX33 ISA bus.
set files are

/etc/conf.modules
# Ethernet card
alias linksys  ne
options linksys io=0x300 irq=11

/etc/rc.d/rc.modules
#!/bin/sh
modprobe linksys

If some one can help thank you.
PS I have test the card in other box and it work ok under win95
