CSU/DSU Modem - v.35 interface combo

Does anyone know of a vendor who sells a good csu/dsu modem combined with
a v.35 interface, internal?

That works with Linux, of course?

   There ain't no such thing. :-)  A CSU/DSU takes 4 wire 56k/64k or T1 and
converts it to V.35 or RS232 Sync or Async.  There are T1 interface cards
with built in CSU/DSUs and 4 wire ports.  I assume there are 56k/64k
interface cards as well, but I have not seen them.  I thnik you need to
look again at what you want, and what it will connect through/to.

Lee,

Thanks for the info. Maybe If I explained what I want you could help me out a
little bit more. All I have at this point is some hurried notes from a friend
who knows a whole lot more than I do about telecomm.

What I want to set up is a router. Linux based. T1 (or fractional) coming in.
He (my friend) said (I think) I would need a csu/dsu modem and a V.35 inter-
face. He thought I might be able to get the two of them all-in-one.

I did some looking around the big companies, 3Com, etc., and I didn't find
these two items by that name.

What is it I really need and who makes them?

Thanks

We get our csu/dsu's from a company called Adtran.  Their website is
www.adtran.com.  We have their TSU 120 that will support isdn and two t1's and
their NT1 Ace for dedicated isdn (don't use it though).  I've only had to reboot
the TSU 120 once in three years.

Peter,
I can't help you with the combo but can offer some personal experience.
I have always used Kentrox CSU's with good success. The company is now called
ADC Kentrox.
For V.35 interface I have used Coastcom multiplexer which will run
synchronous data at T-1 speeds. Coastcom has a new rack that combines CSU
with the V.35 interface. You can custom configure the rack to your needs.\
You may also look at Newbridge equipment. I think we will replace our
Coastcom equipment with the Newbridge stuff.
For routers try Cisco.

Take a look at Sangoma cards.  (www.sangoma.com)  They take T1/FT1 in,
integrate the CSU, and are supported with Linux.  For configuration tips,
look at the Linux router project. (www.linuxrouter.org)  You don't way
what's on the other end, but be aware that getting everything running
correctly can be very difficult.  If possible, get a dedicated router and
make it work first to verify that the telco and ISP side are set up right.
Then "play."  If you want to go with external CSU, take a look at Emerging
Technologies.  I haven't had good experience with them, but they do have
Sync cards with Linux drivers.

    Good luck.

1. v.35 to t1 csu/dsu very basic question

I have v.35 csu/dsu that converts v.35 to a t1 line.

On the v.35 side, a clock and both input and output.  What is the spec
for the data? Is it hdlc with bit stuffing and using a non return to 0
encoding?

Thanks in advance
