Folks,
I'm tying to install Debian Sarge on a machine with the following spec:
Abit AT7-MAX mobo (built-in HPT 374 fake-raid)
2x 300GB SATA Seagate
I can boot from the CD fine, and install a base system fine, but when I
reboot, it gets through POST, goes to the hightpoint's BIOS screen,
detects the two disks, and then immediately reboots. There's no error
message that I can see, but it may be that it just happens too quick.
When setting up the partitioning, I tried something very simple - a
single 1GB ext2 partition mounted on /, non-bootable, on the first disk
(/dev/hde). When the installation gets to the grub install, I told it
to install grub to /dev/hde.
This is the result of a successive number of install attempts, each time
simplifying things down further, but this is as simple as I can get, and
it still fails to boot.
Does anyone out there have experience of this sort of Highpoint hardware
with SATA disks?
cheers
kenny
