I hate posting me too messages but if you get any joy with this please
please let me know... My video gets put in a very strange mode ( looks
almost like a resolution of about 200x100 all skewed up ) and I tried
messing with the XF86Config for hours to no avail... The card I have
is a very nice VLB TVGA9440AGI ( probably the same as yours )

If I can get Linux X to work with this card I will be very happy!

Regards,
Steve.

I hear they are working on a driver for the  9440 but until they get it
done this should get you by.  I had the same problem 320 x 200 res. You can
run xf86config until you are blue and it will not fix the problem.
xf86config (at least the version we are running) will not properly re
establish the X server link. pick generic VGA as your card #50 and choose
vga 16 color for your server. when you exit xf86config try to start
xwindows. If you still get the 320 x 200 res do this. exit xwindows, do a ls
-l on /usr/X11R6/bin/X, if it says that you are linked to xf86_svga (which
it will), remove X (rm X) and re link it to XF86_VGA (ln -s
/usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_VGA16 /usr/X11R6/bin/X. This should allow you to at
least run in vga until the new driver are done.
