i dont have a serial modem but a cable modem so trough the a network card.
But my IP is not detected in thee configuration.
The network card works fine

I assume you subscribe to cable modem.  Your machine must be configured
to run DHCP to get the dynamic IP from your provider.  You also need to
configure your routing and a DNS server to resolve names.
