How to disable on-board video card to add another one?

Hi,

I have a on-board 2MB ati video card.

Is it possible to disable this card and a new one?
If so, how? and what would you recommend for a new card to use with 19"
monitor? (not for * purpose)

Thanks.

look into your mainboard manual - if there's a possibility to dissable it
u'll find it there (normally it's a jumper :-)

I had a motherboard once that relied on memory from the first memory
slot for video. If the memory was placed in slot 2, then it would
disable the onboard video.

It usually have bios option or mb jumper.  If it is relatively new then it
probably can coexist (ie dual monitor.)

If 2meg svga isn't good enough, then you require exact same thing as gamers
(though probably less.)

You cant go wrong with TNT, TNT2 which are very cheap and fast.

It would depend on what motherboard you're using. Some have a dip jumper
to disable the on board video, and some do it in the bios (sounds
*!). Check your mobo manual, the mfg's web site, and look in the
bios settings. I _NEVER_ buy mobo's with built-in video or
sound.....it's just too much hassle to upgrade them.
