Going In-sane-d - Umax Astra 3400

Post by Iva » Thu, 14 Oct 2004 08:57:21

Hi,

I am tring to get my UMAX Astra 3400 scanner to work in Suse 9.1
Kernel 2.6

1)Yast does not detect it (even the list of manufactures does not come
up in manual mode) Tried 1 zillion times reinstalling the
Yast/yast-scanner and the sane packages

2)sane-find-scanner detects it as "found USB scanner (vendor=0x1606,
product=0x0050 [USB SCANNER]) at libusb:001:003"

3)scanimage -L does nothing (give the standard message for not finding
it)

4)tried scanimage -d umax:libusb:001:003 and also libusb/001/003 with
and without /dev/ in front of libusb

5)Edited the /etc/scan.d/dll.conf and uncommented the plustek and umax
entries one by one but no luck

6)Edited the plustek and umax .conf files and tried the following
combos
a)
[usb] 0x1606 0x0050
device auto
b)
[usb] 0x1606 0x0050
device libusb:001:003

7)used suse hotplug, says it loaded it but does not work

8)cat /proc/bus/usb/devices output

T:  Bus=01 Lev=00 Prnt=00 Port=00 Cnt=00 Dev#=  1 Spd=12  MxCh= 2
B:  Alloc=  0/900 us ( 0%), #Int=  0, #Iso=  0

E:  Ad=03(O) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS=   2 Ivl=0ms
E:  Ad=84(I) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS=   1 Ivl=0ms

my consern was the Driver=(none) but from reading i think libusb loads
automatically

9) no scanner module on this system (not present in kernel 2.6+)
so it is not loaded

Please help...(3days+ struggle)

Thanks
Ivan

Hi,

Quote:> 3)scanimage -L does nothing (give the standard message for not finding

Even as root? If it works as root only, read README.linux.

Quote:> 4)tried scanimage -d umax:libusb:001:003 and also libusb/001/003 with

The first one is the correct format.

Quote:> 5)Edited the /etc/scan.d/dll.conf and uncommented the plustek and umax
> entries one by one but no luck

plustek is the right backend.

Quote:> 6)Edited the plustek and umax .conf files and tried the following
> combos

Should be ok (but just [usb] without the numbers should also work).

Quote:> b)
> [usb] 0x1606 0x0050
> device libusb:001:003

Next time you plug-in our scanner you may have different device
numbers...

Yes, that's ok.

Enable debugging:

SANE_DEBUG_PLUSTEK=255 scanimage -L

Maybe that prints the reason for not detecting the scanner.

  Henning

1. Umax Astra 3400 Scanner (USB)

Is anyone using out there using a Umax Astra 3400 USB
scanner under Linux?  Are there any compatibility problems?
I'm considering buying one (they're on sale at a local
retailer) and want some input before I spend any money.

The scanner isn't mentioned at all at
http://www.linux-usb.org/ (at least not that I can find).

It's listed but with only minimal information at the Linux
Hardware Database (http://lhd.zdnet.com/).

I'd like any feedback I can get from the NG about this
particular scanner.  Real-world experiences would be good,
as would references to other web sites.  BTW I'll be using
kernel 2.4.0 or 2.4.1.

Thanks!
