Wanting to install Sane so I can use my new 2450 scanner. Info on Sane says
if want GUI install gimp and gtk. Gimp needs glib.
Mandrake 8.1 installed, presumably also gimp and glib and gtk. Can't
find Gimp (program). May have screwed up when installing Epson printer.
Installed some gimp/printer files.
Anyhow, figured 'no problem', download Gimp and install. Get error
message -- "file /usr/bin/escputil from gimp-1.2.0-1 conflicts with
package printer-utils-1.0-15mdk." And install fails.
Tried to install glib and gtk with the forlorn hope that they might
solve the problem. Note the 'forlorn'.
3 error messages: "file /usr/lib/libglib-1.2.so.0 'from install of
glib-1.2.8.1 conflicts with file from package
libglib 1.2-1.2.10-3mdk'
"file /usr/lib/libgmodule-1.2.so.0 etc. like above
from 'from install...to...3mdk'
"file /usr/lib/libgthread-1.2.so.0 'etc. like above,
same' And install fails.
I trust that's clear. If not I'll clarify.
Frustration is rampant. Have hundreds, nay, thousands, of negs and
slides to be scanned.
Should I delete the mdk files and reinstall gtk, glib and gimp files?
Reluctant to f--- around with files installed by the CD-ROMs. Not
sure what damage that might do to other programs. I believe libraries
are used by many various programs, and I don't want to have to
reinstall the OS.
I trust there is someone or many ones who can help me with what is
probably a simple problem. But it nevertheless is a pita.
Thanks in advance and after the problem is solved, too.
