Postscript printing problems

Post by Jeffrey Da » Mon, 20 Jan 1997 04:00:00

Piece by piece I'm fine tuning my Linux box but I've come across a
slight problem.  In netscape, when using the print command, it prints
out not only the information I want but pages and pages of postscript
formatting data.

My question, then, is this.  How do I eliminate the postscript data and
print only the email, etc. that I want.  At the command prompt I can use
ps2ascii "file" > /dev/lp1 but it's a bit of a pain saving everything to
a .ps file only to convert it for printing.

Thanks!

I'm a bit confused.  Do you have a postscript printer or not?  What kind
of printer are you using?

If you're not using a postscript printer, take a look at ghostscript.
It's
a postscript interpreter, and its supports many common printers.

Also, take a look at the printing How-to for help on writing filter for
printing *.ps files using ghostscript.

Use a Magic Filter.  It will cover several types of formats.  The Printing
HOWTO is worth reading.  It gives the Magic Filters as residing at...

        tsx-11.mit.edu/pub/linux/sources/usr.bin/magic-filter-0.3.tar.gz

Hope this helps.

1. Postscript Printing Problems

Hello,

I am having problems printing postscript 2 pages per
sheet of paper.

I have tried using mpage and nenscript with the number
of pages per sheet set to 2, and piping that to gs.

My printer is an Epson ActionLaser 1100 (which emulates
a HP LaserJet III).

Here's the problem.  When I print something that comes
out on just one sheet of paper, the characters are
perfect.  However, when I print something that comes
out on multiple sheets of paper, only the last one's
characters are clear, all other pages are (usually)
readable, but very fuzzy.

I am using gs-2.6.1.  Is this the problem?  Or has someone
else run into this on an ActionLaser 1100?

Thanks in advance,
