Hi, I'm sorry I have to ask a probably frequenty asked question, but I
have been trying to do without for a week now -- without any luck.
I have a sound card with an OPTi 82C931 chip (which is PnP). I have
tried everything I can think of to get it to work. Booting MS-DOS,
softbooting Linux. isapnptools, insmod sound. Many different IRQ
settings. No luck.
When I configure it as a Sound Blaster card and compiles the kernel
appropiately it works most of the time, but only in 8 bit. If I use
Microsoft Sound System (MSS) it also works with 16 bit samples but
unfortunately the sound card stutters and jumps in the sound (that is,
repeats the same buffer a few times and then skips a bit and repeats a
new buffer).
The MSS driver recognises the card as an 82C930 - could this be a
problem?
BTW, the card does not (as far as I can see) have any jumpers or
anything to turn/change stuff.
I am even thinking of purchasing the commercial OSS/Linux but I have no
idea if that would solve my problems. Even though I am kind of desperate
I am not quite ready to spend $20 on a slight chance.
Please help me...
