hi,

while looking for a card to record video on my linux box, i came across this
"Pinnacle Systems PCTV RAVE" card.
is there anyone having experience with this card (or advices on another
one)?

yep have had one for a couple of years and works perfect for watching the
box, in fact the linux drivers and progs work much better than the windows
client ( latest version ), having said all that I still cannot get it to
record vid+sound, vid is fine and has good frame rate but cannot get any
sound no matter what codec I use ( it could be the way I have my soundcard
set up ), but I must stress that I have not tried that hard to rectify the
problem what with new kernels and new kde updates

All in all you get what you pay for :)

Hello Mark

I am about to get one of these TV Card (either Pinnacle or Hauppauge)
What is the maximum resolution for recording using your PCTV Rave card ?
does the resolution depends on the format (MPEG2, MPEG4, etc.) or the CPU
power ?

I will have a look for you over the weekend, have just updated mobo and
stuff so getting little glitches ironed out at the moment.
