Hard disk with RedHat v7.2 -> pb Boot record

Hello there,

Originally I made a test with such 6.4 Gb Hard disk, where I installed
Redhat v 7.3 (with Grub)
on a old PII, -> He couldn't correctly my hard disk !! I thought that bios
had a problem after upgrad...  Coudl see only 2048 Mb

Recently I purchased a brand new mother board and installed my old hard disk
!
The Grub is still reamining on the hard disk

The Bios can recognize the 6000 Mb

I wnated to reinstall Windows on this Machine. I boot a floppy with DOS
6.22. FDISK recognize  6000Mb When FDISK asked me if I wanted to use the
maximum of  space for MD DOS Partition, say "yes", formatted the whole
partition and  -> Gave me 2048Mb !!!!:-(
Windows can also see an unfomatted space of 2048 Mb !

On Dos 6.33, I tried : FORMAT c:/ /MBR  -> the MBR seems to be not recognize

1) Does someone has an idea ?
2) With what kind of  DOS version ,  can I do FORMAT /MBR ??????

Regards,

Stephane

With DOS6 or earlier windows95 you could only use FAT16 which has a maximum
size of 2GB - if you use a later version (WIN98 onwards) you can use FAT32
which has a maximum size that is MUCH larger.

If you boot with a floppy disk created under win98 and you use fdisk it will
ask if you want to use large disk support - type yes.

I dont know of the command FORMAT /MBR  - but there is a command in fdisk -
FDISK /MBR which rewrites the MBR with the copy from windows.
