cdrdao problem using k3b on SuSE 8.2

Post by John Zoetebie » Wed, 11 Jun 2003 19:38:15

I could burn CDs on SuSE 8.1 using KreateCD.
After installing SuSE 8.2 KreateCD has gone and I tried to use k3b.
No matter what I try to copy a CD it dies while reading the CD.
Messages:

No cdrdao driver found.
Please select one manually in de device settings.
For most current drives this would be 'generic-mmc'
Cdrdao returned and error code ! (Code 1)
Operation not permitted.
Please send me an email with the last output.

When I change the driver settings the next time I look at the settings it is
changed back to auto.
Actually any setting I change seems to get lost although the last screen
confirms that settings have been stored.
Can anybody shed a light on this mystery ?

Cracked problems.
1. Bug in k3b.
Somehow k3bsetup does not store new settings.
When you go via menu option "Confige k3b: the settings are stored.
I can set cdrdao driver to generic-mmc now.
2. Problem with this particular CD
The correct CD drive is selected and the drive light is on.
The HDD light is red, but actually nothing is written.
There is anothing written to temp folder, progress bar stays as it is.

Selected new CD and reading + burning starts.
To my surprice is the burning part many times faster than the reading.

1. Mount of Novell 3.2 Server Volumes using IPX/NCP not possible using SuSE 8.2

Hi,

I'm using several Linux boxes together with some Novell 3.2 Servers im
the same Token-Ring subnet.

Up to SuSE Linux 7.1, I was able to mount the Novell Servers on the
filesystem of the Linux box by issuing the commands:

  ipx_configure --auto_interface=on --auto_primary=on
  sleep 10s
  ncpmount -S <server> /mnt -U <user> -P <passwd>

However, after upgrading to SuSE Linux 8.2, the same procedure failed
stating:

Server not found (0x8847) when trying to find <Server>

Now I tried to configure the IPX-Protocol manually by using the command

  ipx_interface add tr0 802.2 0A100800

The IPX-binding seems to work, since cat /proc/net/ipx_interface shows:

Network    Node_Address   Primary  Device     Frame_Type
0A100800   000629C1B034   Yes      tr0        802.2

However, slist or ncpmount still fails. I also tested the other frame
types
802.3, 802.2TR, SNAP, EtherII with the same result (0x8847).

Any helpful suggestions?
